Drawing modifications
« on: December 16, 2019, 03:04:22 pm »
Adobe SWF tool (Adobe Professional?) is hard to get and it works in Windows only (? at least no Linux version)

However you can use FFDec to export vector drawings (defineShape objects) from SWF file to SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) files, modify these files and replace drawings in SWF by importing SVG back.

There are some difficulties because many graphic editors converts vector graphic to raster (bitmap) image which renders drawing almost useless for Flash. Some other editors use some SVG features not supported by Flash, so no way.

However, I found an editor that works just fine with Flash SVGs: Inkscape
Inkscape is professional vector graphics software which runs on Linux, macOS and Windows desktop computers.
inkscape.org

It's free and available for all operating systems.

Thanks to this editor, I just created undressed sprites for 6 characters that I couldn't until now because cloth drawing was part of body drawing. Also in 1/2 cases nipples are missing (copied from another sprite) and always slit is missing (had to draw).
Example is Library cafe waitress sprite (referred as Armacool in some now deleted wiki if I remember)

So now everyone can draw missing body parts.
I have to watch Inkscape tutorial series on Youtube first to use it the right way. But I haven't drawn in last 30 years and I was not good at as a kid, so I'm gonna pretty suck.

Awesome! Do you want to use that tool to make an icon for the application then? It just needs to be a png.

Sorry I've been absent lately, my life almost quite literally crumbled before my eyes. I'm back, really tired as of late, but I still want to finish genus support. Flash is being incompetent (as usual) and I cannot pirate CS6 because no one has it. I can draw in flash fine, but the actual .fla project file isn't saved properly. I can export sprites no problem however, so would you be able to create the animated sprite from all the states if I draw them all? so far I have all of the feral canines, all the equines (I learned how to draw stripes pretty well), lion and panther. For a lot of these I also want to add tails as well since that's something else that was never finished.

I can update existing animation by replacing current body segment drawing by sprite nesting all variants of particular body segment drawing. I would run into hardship if I had to modify animation itself because in FFDec it is incredibly tedious to modify object movement by altering position, scale and rotation by numbers manually. Also FFDec does not support adding frame in between at all, it can add a frame only at the end, so there is no way to slow/stretch any part of animation.
The FFDec is so rudimentary at Flash so it's actually easier for me to convert animation from Flash style into script operated math model based animation, almost whenever I have to change anything.

I hope your life gets better soon. My life got a bit weird by almost eliminating social life, but nothing really bad. I got late at my house overhaul because everything was shut down here for 2 months, including hardware stores. Essential business means only grocery and pharmacy stores here. So I'm gonna be busy with that until cold winter weather stops me again. I'm 100% DIY guy at everything so things take time. I'll be slow with HTH until weather gets freezing.
But what's new, I'm really happy today. Finally, I'm not tabbyless anymore!

I was thinking that I would save individual sprites for each genus and you could combine them all into one sprite. This way I could create one genus and export so I don't lose progress. If you can't that's fine I'll figure out a way

Depends what file format you can save it in and if I can load that using FFDec. Let's see.

Okay I got flash working again (with a huge amount of tweaking) and now I'll begin again at drawing. I've gotten even better than last time so I'm kinda excited. I'll send you a test genus when I get it finished

okay, here's a standalone. I made this to be implemented very easily into any scene. It's in Shockwave format if that works

It's not straightforward to import into scene but I can work with that.
Just sometimes FFDec breaks file data order. Also it has to be adjusted little bit for particular scene.
I don't know which first person POV scenes is your sprite directly compatible with.

I tried to implement that in one scene and it needs some tweaking yet. You have to play it in the game to have EDIT button for species change.
Let's pi$$ certain person off again :-)

Clearly needs polishing, but glad the system works!
