Crow talked big about having all these plans for fully customizable player characters, ....
...
Unrelated, but have you guys considered just...Scrapping this crap and starting over with the artwork in a different system or engine?
...
Talking big about plans, that’s actually one thing Crow is really good at. :-)

Regarding going big myself, I’ve already considered that. Problem is, that Unity or other 3D engine is like 20x more complicated than Flash and it takes at least 20x more effort to master it. To learn everything from system basic, to map design, building full rigged 3D NPC models, programming proper body physics model and animations, fluid model for cu/m, learn to master video processing for light effects, to master data loading management so assets are loaded seamlessly not causing lag spikes.
It’s not small goal. No way in hell can Crow ever master that.
Such task requires talented nolifer with no friends nor hobbies who would devote all his free time for at least an year. Or someone who doesn’t need daily job. It’s no chance for a guy running a household with wife and kids. I can’t ever succeed at such big task.
Yes, everyone can just download Unity and put together some templates and paid assets using tutorials. That way you can have something in a month, but the result will be garbage. You have already seen how such build looks like. ;-)
There is no point in doing 2D animations in Unity. It’s unnecessary complicated engine and 2D animation in 3D environment never looks really good. It’s a wrong way.
Actually, Flash, even dead, is still the best for simple controlled 2D animation. It’s like if Flash has been designed for HTH :-)
We don’t have that many remaining things to do left. There is one scene with drawn assets and missing animation, half of NPCs don’t have dialog yet, creating player species drawings and implementing that to that many scenes is quite an effort, but it’s something we can have done in an year or two. With that, HTH Offline will be the first and the only ever finished HTH game. :-)
